Why speed matters in insurance
Insurance is where some of the clearest research on response time comes from. A peer-reviewed study of an auto-insurance sales call center found conversion fell 31% when the first call came 30 minutes after a request instead of 5 (Musalem, Olivares and Yung, "Balancing Agent Retention and Waiting Time in Service Platforms," Operations Research, 2023).
Quote shoppers fill in comparison forms that go to several agencies at once. The agency that reaches them first and makes the next step easy usually writes the policy.
What Peregrine does, and what it does not
Peregrine calls the lead within seconds, says it is an AI assistant, confirms the line of business and the basics you need to route the call, such as state, current carrier and renewal date, and then live-transfers the caller to an available licensed agent. It does not quote, bind or give advice; your agents do.
Callers who ask not to be contacted are marked do-not-call immediately, and every call has a transcript for your records.
Routing by agent availability
Agents set their hours and toggle themselves on and off. Peregrine only dials when someone can take the transfer and rings agents in round-robin order, falling through to the next agent when one does not answer.
Every agent who is on shares one rotation. Peregrine does not yet send particular lines or states to particular agents. Until it does, put only agents who can take every line you advertise into the rotation, or transfer to a shared line that your own phone system routes.
Compliance basics
Collect consent on your quote forms, honor do-not-call requests, respect calling hours in the lead's time zone, and follow your states' rules on AI disclosure and call recording. Peregrine discloses that it is an AI on every call and records do-not-call requests automatically; your counsel should review your consent language.
A typical first call
A shopper requests an auto-insurance quote on a comparison site at lunch. Seconds later Peregrine calls, introduces itself as an AI assistant for your agency, confirms their name and state, asks how many vehicles and drivers, who insures them now and when the policy renews, and whether now is a good time to talk to an agent. If an agent is available, the shopper is connected immediately and the agent hears a one-line summary first.
Shoppers who are not ready get a callback at the time they choose. Shoppers who ask not to be called are marked do-not-call on the spot.
What to ask, and what to leave to the agent
Have the assistant gather facts. Good questions: line of business, state, number of vehicles and drivers or the type of property, current carrier, renewal date, and the best time to talk. Leave anything that needs a license to your agents. That means coverage recommendations, prices, comparisons between carriers and eligibility decisions. Peregrine does not quote, and it does not invent prices or discounts.
Keep must-haves few. A shopper whose renewal is four months out may still be worth a conversation today. Use weights for timing, and reserve deal-breakers for states you are not licensed in and lines you do not write.
Consent and records
Send your consent language with each lead. The webhook and the API accept a consent field, and Peregrine stores it with the lead. Every call keeps a transcript, and every do-not-call request is recorded on the lead and never dialed again. Ask your counsel to review your consent wording for AI calls.
Getting quote leads in
Create a webhook source for each lead vendor and for each comparison site you buy from. Each vendor posts the shopper's name, phone number and email, plus the profile id for the line of business and your consent text. Quote forms on your own website use the snippet. Vendors that only send leads by email can be forwarded through an email parser such as Zapier's.
Calling hours and retries
Peregrine dials while your agents are on, based on the hours each agent sets. If you buy leads from other time zones, set agent hours so calls do not reach shoppers too early or too late in their own day. Shoppers who miss the first call get retries on your schedule, and a voicemail with your callback number on the last attempt.
Questions agencies ask
"Shoppers will think it is a robocall." It is a real conversation that answers questions, and it opens by saying it is an AI assistant for your agency. The shopper asked for a quote minutes earlier, so the call is expected.
"Our agents want to make the first call." They still make the first sales conversation. Peregrine makes the first contact, then hands over a live shopper with the basics already collected.
"We also buy aged leads." Peregrine is built for fresh inbound requests. Calling older leads with an AI assistant raises its own consent questions, so check with counsel first.
Measuring results
Track contact rate, transfer rate and bind rate by lead vendor, and the time from request to a licensed conversation. Agencies buying internet leads usually find that vendor quality looks very different once every lead is reached in seconds.
Inside Peregrine, watch median time to first call, reach rate, qualification rate and missed transfers. If missed transfers rise at certain hours, agent coverage is thin then. If qualification rate drops for one vendor, open a few of its transcripts to see why.
Setup checklist
Create a profile for each line you sell. Add your agents with their hours and the numbers transfers should ring. Create a webhook source for each lead vendor, and include the profile id and the consent text in each vendor's payload. Then send a test lead with your own number and listen to the full call before you go live.
Questions
Does Peregrine quote insurance?
No. It gathers the basics and transfers to a licensed agent, who handles quoting and advice.
Can it ask different questions for each line of business?
Yes. Use a separate qualification profile for auto, home, life or commercial, and send the profile id with each lead from your webhook or API. Routing each line to its own group of agents is not available yet.
How are do-not-call requests handled?
If a caller asks not to be contacted, Peregrine marks the lead do-not-call immediately and never dials it again.
Call every lead in seconds
Peregrine calls new leads seconds after they submit a form, qualifies them on your criteria and live-transfers the good ones to whichever rep is free. Try it free for 14 days and 50 leads.
